Fungal infections kill more people than you might think!

You hear fungi and you don’t really think seriously about it similar to how you think about bacteria or viruses. That is really unfortunate, as I just learnt that the threat from fungi in terms of mortality is as big as tuberculosis!
Here are some key stats (from GAFFI) on global fungi impact:

  • Over 1 million go blind every year
  • Nearly 1 billion have fungal skin infection
  • More than half of asthma-related deaths are from fungal
  • Nearly 1.3 million people die!

I am also surprised to read that the world has a very disorganized approach (undocumented too) to cure this problem. No wonder not many of have any sense of those above numbers and GAFFI (Global Action Fund for Fungal Infections) is trying to cure this #ProWoSo.
Some cures are not known but, similar to other cases we have seen before, the awareness & funding to support simple known solutions are missing too! Even in developed countries doctors may not make a connection to fungi diagnosing the lung problems! And of course bigger challenge is the drug resistance of fungal infections.
Here we have quite a few #ProWoSo and are great opportunities for Pieneers! Good luck to all the Pieneers!

As always, know of anyone or any startup working on this, please let me know, I will update this post.
