Low cost pulmonary TB test with no electricity is needed

We all heard of TB as one of the worlds’ biggest killers with 1.3 Million deaths in 2017! Developing countries is where u have most of the deaths as the options for accessible cheaper testing/treatment are very limited. Several have tried to develop a variety of low cost methods, for example: $2 test
In addition to cheaper tests at the point-of-care, there are several challenges that need to co-ordinated well. For example, in remote places there is no electricity/power to maintain the proper temperature needed for the test samples. This definitely is not unique to this problem, as we keep reading about the lack of electricity and challenges the populations face. So, we need an alternative way to keep the samples at the required temperature and this could be a tough challenge!
There are other issues that need addressing as well, for effective control of TB, some software/tech might be able to help, are:

  • Effective surveillance system
  • Accelerated identification of cases via proper education & messaging
  • Better coordination of different medical practitioners

Good luck to all the Pieneers! As always, know of anyone or any startup working on this, please let me know, I will update this post.
