{"id":356,"date":"2019-03-14T10:19:02","date_gmt":"2019-03-14T17:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pieneers.com\/blog\/?p=356"},"modified":"2019-05-30T14:26:58","modified_gmt":"2019-05-30T21:26:58","slug":"harvard-presidents-innovation-challenge-ingenuity-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pieneers.com\/blog\/harvard-presidents-innovation-challenge-ingenuity-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Harvard &#8211; President\u2019s Innovation Challenge &#8211; Ingenuity Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, as part of Harvard President\u2019s Innovation Challenge, they have announced \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/innovationlabs.harvard.edu\/ingenuity-awards\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ingenuity Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 and the intention behind the award is wonderful. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we all know, it is important to enable creativity and ingenuity of our kids, this award embraces the openness and asks applicants:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To choose the problem they would like to solve and why they would do so?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explain the primary target customer who will benefit from their solution<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposed solution- not necessarily a fool proof one &#8211; but how they envision a solution\/future that might look like with their solution implemented. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This challenge is music to our ears! As it asks the kids to present a problem that they would like to solve\u2026.and we know they can go to pieneers.com\/blog ! \ud83d\ude42 Most importantly it enables them to think boldly without implementation constraints and this is first step in getting kids engaged in creative problem solving process. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only Harvard students are eligible for this and I wish it is open to all! Perhaps some foundation will pick on this and launch a challenge for all the students across the globe. Will update this post once winners are announced. \u00a0Fyi, application deadline is April 19, 2019. Good luck to all the Pieneers!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;UPDATE 5\/25\/2019&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Ingenuity awards were announced and the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/story\/2019\/05\/harvard-innovators-awarded-410000-in-annual-presidents-prize\/\">winners<\/a> are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grand Prize &#8211; Christina Chang, for envisioning the development of a sustainable chemical steel manufacturing process that would decrease global CO2 emissions.<\/li>\n<li>Runner Up 1 &#8211;\u00a0Tauheedah Baker,\u00a0 for a tech-based approach to increasing the quantity, quality, and retention of teachers of color in under-served communities.<\/li>\n<li>Runner Up 2 &#8211;\u00a0Nicole Ivey, for making day care centers hubs for everything working parents need.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Congratulations to all these winners.
